With wholesaling now legal in Montana, the cultivation license and MIPP allow the owner to sell their products to any licensed dispensary and/or manufacturer in the state of Montana. You’ll have no shortage of potential customers for off-loading your products to other licensees, or you can use all of your products to stock the shelves of your own dispensary(s).
The micro-tier license allows for the cultivation of up to 250 sq ft of canopy and can be tiered up every year at the time of renewal. At next year’s renewal in October, you could move up to a tier 1 which would allow for 4x the amount of current canopy, and the following year to a tier 2 that would allow for 10x the current canopy. Montana is currently under a moratorium for new licenses until July of ’25 at the earliest, however, companies with existing recreational dispensary licenses are allowed to continue opening new dispensaries. The recreational dispensary license will allow you to open additional shops (with additional fees to the state) if desired, so it’s a very valuable asset in lieu of the moratorium.
This opportunity is fully relocatable and provides excellent flexibility for a buyer. You will be able to relocate these licenses to where you’d like to be in business. You will need to have real estate capable of passing state inspections as well as meeting local zoning requirements to house them as there are no active leases to transfer.
Montana sold over $300 million of cannabis in both 2022 and 2023, and this is your opportunity to get in on the action at a fraction of the price of most available opportunities. If there is a better deal available for a fully-vertical cannabis company in Montana, I am unaware of it. It’s only made better by the fact that the owner is willing to discuss owner-financing terms with as little as $75k down.
